Welcome to the world of Rex Libris. Out of the ashes of the Great Library of Alexandria comes a hero with firsts as powerful as his mind to stem the tide of ignorance that threatens to engulf the world. Tough-as-nails Head Librarian at Middleton Public Library, Rex Libris fights the interminable struggle against the forces of darkness, all the while wearing his distinctive, super-thick bottle glasses, a bland suit, and armed with an arsenal of powerful weapons, he takes on any foe refusing to pay their late fees. Rex Libris is the self-titled comic book about the "guardian of knowledge, defender of the Dewey Decimal System and the best hope for the future of civilization" by author/illustrator James Turner. According to Turner the 'old maid' image of librarians is merely a disguise to throw outsiders off the femme fatale librarian agents' tracks. In reality librarians and the libraries they work for are part of the ancient and secret Ordo Bibliotheca. The Ordo Bibliotheca has a mission: for two thousand years they have used librarians to clandestinely emphasize, or de-emphasize, branches of knowledge, in order to influence the development of civilization. Humanity is a tree to be pruned as the Order sees fit. All this is done in order to advance society and protect it from unspeakable evils. For whatever reason, the ALA refused to acknowledge this, even if plans are being made for a Rex Libris movie. |

The Librarian, a made for television movie series including The Librarian: Quest for the Spear, Return to King Solomon's Mines, and the upcoming The Curse of the Judas Chalice. The Librarian begins with professional student Flynn Carsen not sure how to use his 22 degrees to get a job. Being full of knowledge without any practical application he is hired as a librarian at the Metropolitan Public Library. Everything is fine until a priceless, mythical, holy relic--which could lead to the end of the world--is stolen from the library and Carsen is required to retrieve it. Did I mention that the library is secretly hoarding legendary artifacts? Once again we have a situation wherein a select cabal shapes the destiny of civilization, all in secret and all under the auspices of protecting humanity (except for when they can't because a rogue agent steals from them). And again we have cast that plays with stereotypes. The female librarians are tough as nails and the men, although incredibly nerdy, rise the the heroic occasion. |
