Re:Covers: A Month of Spooky #6

You hear a strange noise. Your hair stands on end. Your heart races. Your hands sweat. It must be day six of the Spooky covers! Today's victim is Chamber of Chills #2:

Chamber of Chills (1972) #2

This cover is a classic case of what I call Monster Behind You. Nothing is more satisfying than watching some poor slob assume everything is fine while you (the viewer) sit in sweet smugness at knowing the real story. It's even better when the slob is an arrogant ass. I think we all know people like this.

This is the very definition of dramatic irony: the reader knowing something (usually awful) that the characters don't know. See also, Oedipus.

The colorful ascot and the green vampire put this cover over the top to earn one scream.
