Nineteen-year-old cabbie Ed Kennedy is a loser. His friends are losers, his family is largely made up of losers, and there is really no reason to think any of this is going to change until, in a sudden fit of bravery, he nabs a inept bank-robber. Now he's getting playing cards in the mail with cryptic messages demanding his action. What the heck is going on, why him, and how is he going to handle these messages are questions that you'll really enjoy finding out the answers to. The ending was--I think--unnecessarily metafictional, but I liked it more than The Book Thief.
