Abadzis tells the story of Kudryavka (AKA Laika) the first earthling in space. Laika was the dog who the Soviets sent into space to prove the Communist's superiority. Of course little went according to plan including the hoped for propaganda coup. Abadzis fleshes out the story by recounting the somewhat fictionalized lives of those who knew and worked with the dog and discusses how attached they became to her. It's a good tale, but I just wasn't thrilled.
