Jess is an adolescent loser in his school until another loser, a girl named Leslie, moves to town and together they build a friendship as magnificent as the imaginary world, Terabithia, they play in. This is a lovely and horrifically heart wrenching film that I think would devastate most of the young audience that would most appreciate the story. I realize Jess goes through a lot of pain in this movie, but what I wouldn't have done to have a had a friend as awesome as Leslie instead of being surrounded by vapid, space wasters as my school was filled with. Plus, Zooey Deschanel is incredibly hot and an amazing music teacher as opposed to the Nazi who killed all my love for music by screaming at us if we didn't sit perfectly still and made us pay her for photostats of public domain music. (PS How long do you think a male teacher would last if he invited a ten year old female student to go on a field trip with him?) I'll read the book as soon as I feel I can without crying.
