I went with my nieces to see this musical based on the movie version I saw in the ‘70s when I was even younger than they are now. I was shocked that I remembered so much of the plot and characters after so long, but then it’s a classic story that reminds young women that if they wish to attract a man they need to dress and act like a dumb slut. Who could forget such a lesson? I’m not sure how much my nieces understood (it has the problem of appealing to little kids, while having more adult themes) although they really enjoyed it and so did I but more for the nostalgic, camp value. Apparently, there was some American Idol contestant in the show (complete with matronly fan club), and the fact that I can’t even tell you who it was should tell you my opinion on that.
