Kiddie Lit: The Cultural Construction of Children’s Literature in America – Beverly Lyon Clark

Children’s literature isn’t held in as high esteem as adult literature? Who knew? Oh, wait, the planet. Is it fair? No. That last part I emphatically agree with, and it is vaguely interesting to read some examples of literature that has fallen into and out of (and often vise versa and back again) favor due to its association with children. However, this thesis turned text (I had to read it for a class) is high flatulent and dull, almost as if it had to be to prove itself not for children. It also irks me that one of the main points is that Kiddie Lit is a derogatory and destructive term that should never be used. You know, sort of like how homosexuals foolishly call themselves “queer” or black Americans use “the N word”.
