Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic – Alison Bechdel

Bechdel’s graphic novel revisits attempting to make sense of her father’s death at the time she realized she was a lesbian and that her father was a closeted homosexual. Truth is stranger than fiction and this family is rather strange. The title refers to the Bechdel’s mortician business, which didn’t quite suit a family of intellectuals in a small town. Bechdel’s art is eloquent and her tale of family dysfunction is powerful, although I’m not convinced it deserves its best selling status.
