1,000 Eyes of Dr. Mabuse seems to be the final installment of a series of Dr. Mabuse films by the late Fritz Lang of Metropolis fame. The movie was drawn out (I almost fell asleep) and being unfamiliar with the Dr. Mabuse series, based on the title, I was expecting more of a supernatural quality to it than it had. It has been described as a precursor to the James Bond films, even starring Goldfinger himself, Gert Frobe (this is from the back of the VHS box). I can see the connection, with a plot that involves 1960's high tech espionage and exploiting nuclear power. I don't think I could sit through this film again, unless it had some great insider commentary that revealed a lot more than the basics of the film. Perhaps we should stick to discovering Lang's earlier works.
