Mansfield Park (1983 movie)

The BBC’s version of this Jane Austin novel pales compared to the adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, especially due to shoddy costumes and a rushed ending, although it was still fairly true to the original. The story revolves around Fanny, a poor girl, taken in by her wealthy uncle and aunt, the staid Sir Thomas Bertram and the hapless Lady Bertram. Typical of Austin’s works, most of the plot revolves around our heroine attempting to dissuade unwanted advances and capture the heart of the truly noble. It’s worth watching, especially instead of the 1999 version.
