Spider-Man

Genius nerd gets bitten by a genetically mutated spider and develops super powers. The classic comic by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko finally gets to the big screen. I enjoyed this movie. It was relatively true to the comics and had good special effects. Problems consisted of fight scenes that were too reliant on director Sam Raimi's Xena years and the cliche "join me and together we shall rule" villain speech that hasn't worked since The Empire Strikes Back. There was a nice (failed) effort to unite the characters with a theme of child-father relationships that I thought was worth trying. William DeFoe was wonderful as the Green Goblin even if his outfit sucked.
