The Penultimate Peril – Lemony Snicket

The end of the series obviously draws nigh as the Baudelaire orphans are confronted—again—by Count Olaf and his never ceasing quest to rob them of their inheritance, frame them for crimes they didn’t commit, and destroy what is, perhaps, their one hope: the mysterious organization unfathomably referred to as V.F.D. In this installment, Snicket makes Kafka’s The Trial appear rational and integrates arson, biological terrorism, and a host of criminal conspiracies while reuniting us with most of the series' characters. This is one of the most delightful, amoral (abnormal?) children’s books around.
