Larry Marder's Beanworld is a delightful story filled with wonder for children of all ages. At least that's the review that I've heard for the last twenty years, and I'd always meant to get a copy of it to see for myself. Now that I have, my own review is: Meh. It took some time to figure out the internal logic of Beanworld, with its twinks, slats, beans, and chips, but mainly this story just didn't do much for me. I suppose you can call it charming, but it didn't hold my interest enough for me to seek out the next 3 volumes.
