Walker, A., S. Taylor and U. Ruchti. Stanley Kubrick, Director: A Visual Analysis. New York: W. W. Norton & Company, 2000. A competent and comprehensive examination of the important works of an important director. For me, the best part was that the authors used biographical information sparingly, typically only to shine light on a point rather than be the point. Admittedly, I was a little upset that they skipped over some of Kubrick's lesser-known work, but they do a terrific job of mining the important images and themes in his oeuvre (although they didn't devote much ink to "Eyes Wide Shut").
