Wolf, Fred A. Mind into Matter: A New Alchemy of Science and Spirit. Portsmouth: Moment Point Press, 2001. Part science, part mysticism, part self-help, this rambling treatise on the mind/matter problem has numerous nuggets of insight into the similarities of quantum science and old world alchemy, but it fails to focus its message in a useful way. I'm simply not convinced that the "mysterious" nature of quantum mechanics is really proof of the legitimacy of old myths. Certainly, many of the metaphors work, but to me that says more about the power of cultural mythology (i.e., the human ability to create meaning) than it does about the rules of nature. Of course, one couldn't exist without the other, so I'm open to the idea; however, Wolf was not able to convince me.
