Allen, Woody. Woody Allen on Woody Allen: In Conversation with Stig Bjorkman. New York: Grove Press, 1993. A highly-readable if somewhat surface-level look at the ouerve of Woody Allen. In a series of interviews, Stig Bjorkman traces the directoral career of Woody Allen, one film at a time. As a result, the reader is left with an entertaining look at the background of each of Allen's films--in Allen's own voice. What emerges from these interviews is that, while Allen's film persona is nerdy, nuerotic, and inept, Woody himself is a dedicated, disciplined, and highly competent artist (who just happens to be nerdy and nuerotic). For fans of Woody, this is a great romp through his film history; but for those looking for a a more critical review of his art, this book only scratches the surface.
